think of it that way:
those 997 armor bonus will allow way more survability against those taurens warriors decked in T2 arena and wealding Deep Thunder
Yep - it will

i fail to see hte point in mages having armour, as the armour total is so little lol, vs a 2h wep u will die either way

warrior set looks sweet, 45 crit rating on a single item is insane... and 97 dps on weapons is as well. I hate it when pvp rewards get better than the raid rewards, or at least easier obtainable, kinda forces me to pvp

Welcome to Un's 5v5 team =P Myrah!!!

For a warrior the pvp items are indeed exceptionally good, armor and weapons. The weapons are at the very least equal to the T3 blacksmith ones which require to be at least in SSC raid-wise.
However I have to admitt that the arena rewards are rather difficult to optain aswell. With the changes to the points awarded for the arena rating, no working 5vs5 team in sight and thus a max. of about 380 points per week it does take quite some time and persistance to get a noticable amount of the gear (~1 month per armor item).
It is worth the effort though, at least for the dps warriors.
