Computer boot up problems

Nyxxi's picture

Hey folks,

Over the weekend i got a new CPU for my uni work (Q9600 quad core 3ghz), worked perfectly fine, Computer booted fine (my motherboard always beeps twice just after startup) and ran perfectly apart from the fact that the new CPU coupled with my already demanding GFX card meant i needed a new PSU since i had a 580 watt at the time.

Got a 750 watt PSU this morning and installed it, all power connectors were in place and tightly fitted -

24 pin Motherboard power
4 pin Motherboard
SATA connector for DVD drive
2 periphoral 4 pin connectors for both IDE HDD's
2x PCI-E connectors for my Nvidia 1068mb gfx card

No visable area where my motherboard is touching the case.

here lies the problem, since i installed the new PSU, when i press the power on button on the front of the tower the fans turn on as usual, the motherboard light turns on, the PSU fan starts, but there are no other sounds, the two beeps i always got arent there anymore and niehter is the network card light on the back. The monitor is also not recieving any signal.

I've tried reseating the ram cards several times to remove any particles on the strips. Tried the same with the gfx card but it seems to be stuck and any further attempt to pull it out further just strains the motherboard so i wont bother.

Any ideas how i can fix it?

You could also try digging up the manual (or download it from manufacturers site) and look up the MB error codes. All the MBs I have seen had some sort of indication (leds, numeric codes, beeps etc) if something goes wrong...then you can look up the code in the manual and sometimes get a better idea of whats wrong.

Also nyxxi like gatto said there is a batteri on the MB wich store's CMOS .
Try Remove it.
Power up the pc.
Turn it off again
Put the batteri back in and boot it up.

Also worth saying that you should check if any cables seem faulty or if they are actually plugged in properly Sticking out tongue Always worth checking tho, i know that for a fact ^^

will try the removing the Cmos battery, see if that works.

the inside of my case is quite dusty as well, perhaps when i laid it on its side to install the new PSU some dust got trapped between the MB and the case and its shorting?

I could be that your cmos batteri could be dead, so if you can find a cheap batteri you should try that. But before that i would try the old psu, just to see if the new one is faulty by any chance.
