The spell can also be disabled by talking to Lord Afrasastrasz at the beginning of Dragon Soul, if a raid wishes to attempt the encounters without the aid of the Dragon Aspects.
For those of you who raided in Firelands and/or Icecrown you’re no doubt aware that as time goes on we want to keep people progressing by adjusting the difficulty. For any number of reasons a group may be having difficulty on a specific encounter each week, and our intent in adjusting the content is to ensure the ability to keep progressing, enjoying the content, and gearing up. With Icecrown we progressively buffed the players, and while this slow progression (and ability to opt-out of the buff) were both beneficial, it led to an expectation of your characters power, and once you left the raid you could certainly feel less effective. For Firelands we attempted to fix that by nerfing the content instead of buffing players, but we nerfed the content difficulty all at one time, which was counterproductive for players who really didn’t need as severe a change as we made. With Dragon Soul we’re attempting to do the best of both by having a progressive nerf to the content, keeping player power constant while providing small increases in assistance over a long period of time, as well as allowing players to opt-out of the assistance by speaking to Lord Afrasastrasz.
We hope you continue to enjoy Dragon Soul, and that these changes encourage you to attempt a higher difficulty, or just keep pushing to down that next boss.

Too early in my opinion for heroic content. We are progressing nicely and I don't feel they are excessively difficult so far.
@ Thu, 19/01/2012 - 09:31
I agree. Hopefully we will be able to get Zon'ozz down before they hit.

That was the first thing that crossed my mind when I read it. Pre nerf kills are always more satisfying

the heroics arent even that hard tho to be fair we are progressing mega fast seeming how long of a break we had over xmas..

Who in there right mind will do that though.
People that are progressing need the buff to stay competitive and people that have cleared it, have cleared it and so happy to blitz through the content.

to say you cleared 8 / 8 hc without the buff?
@ Thu, 19/01/2012 - 13:42
True, im so fucking sick of this Nerfing.
They added LFR so all casuals can se the content, now they can and still they fucking nerf the normal/hc for us "half hc raider's"
Its just retarded and i can't wait till Guild Wars 2 comes out..
WTB a game that put most effort on satisfying raiders rather then casuals.

How do you prove it though Nek? there are no achieves or anything like that for doing it without the buff. So anyone can come afterwards and say "hey we cleared it without the buff!" and everyone will just reply: "hihi, we don't believe you"
It would only be for personal feelings gain of "hey i did clear it without buff" something that don't matte to much when all morch wiping guilds start swooping by you, sadly.
Blizz fails, yet again

There's a date on the achievement so you can basically just link it and say look at the date and remind them of that the patch came in end of January. But yes the nerf is really too early.
@ Thu, 19/01/2012 - 16:16
For me it's not about bragging rights, its about the fun of hard fights and knowing you are doing well against others.
@ Thu, 19/01/2012 - 16:31
Same here, but you can't do well against others if they are using the buff and you aren't.

Yeah but I think they are taking about killing AFTER the nerf, but with the buff removed.. Like in ICC you can turn off the buff, if you wanna go "original"... So showing your achievement afte rthe nerf, will not tell you weather or not you did it with buff on/off...
I think its WAY too soon.. On less the expansion is coming out way sooner than I expect, or this isnt the last raiding tier of this content...

Is indeed too soon, especially considering LFR being added in this patch so they don't have the excuse of people not seeing the fights. Perhaps the expansion isn't very far off then
@ Thu, 19/01/2012 - 16:53
I wouldn't bet on it. We had the ICc buff for a long time.
For hard modes it's just annoying. Come patch 5.0 when we get the new talents etc we will walk dragonsoul like we did at end of tbc/wotlk, so it makes the argument that they want all people to see all content a mute one.
My guess is they are trying to avoid the next tier down teams getting stuck on early heroics.
@ Thu, 19/01/2012 - 16:55
Bashiok has however stated that it will not be an automatically progressing mechanic like ICC was, (It went up 5% every week or so regardless of how well it allowed players to blitz bosses).
This mechanic is run manually and they will increase it to a 10% nerf if they continue to see guilds having problems with normal and heroic content. If they are happy with the progression of the raid then it will stay at 5% indefinetely.
The 5% nerf would bring Yor'sahj down from 89million to 85.5million.
Considering that fight has our top player/s doing around 15m dmg @ 30k dps at the end of the fight, it would be like bringing someone doing ~9k dps to the fight extra to the other players.

Atleast they start out with 5% which is probably you won't notice as much, probably only on some zerg fights like Ultraxion. Much better than the instant nerfs in Firelands where we killed 2 new bosses on heroic the same day.

and so makeing it easyer begins wonder what they got comeing up before panda's then
@ Sat, 21/01/2012 - 23:47
Somewhere it really helps is heroic Spine. As most of the progression guilds opt for only burst classes for that fight for the tendons (arcane mages and sub rogues for example) and everyone else has to sit out. With a 5 or 10% buff at least other classes might get the chance as well.
