Ok, time has come for me. Posting anything on forums takes 3-5 minutes. Opening new forum page the same thing. Never experienced things like that before. I am pretty sure got some troian or spyware. I am using IE 7.0.6001.1800 and would prefer to stay that way (just a matter of hapit).
Any advice what I should use (some freeware ideally) so that I rescue the situation fast/today. Than what would be the best choice in terms of paid sw so that I can get it at some later stage?
Thanks for your help in advance.

If you have been using windows explorer - they highlighted that there was a security breach - and produced a patch to fix it.
I use Pc Tools spyware doctor - never had a problem since installing it

'I want to use IE' is not an option, really. It is like saying to the dentist 'I wanna use a chainsaw to brush my teeth. Force of habit.'

Few things.
There is a major internet hardware problem going on right now, some of the major cables have been damaged again, I suspect a few routers are working hard to send traffic through less than optimal routes and pushing data limits sky high in those areas.
There are plenty of free things you can find on the net, I had a problem before WOLK if you remember and cleaned it all up, but decided to just rebuild in the end, it seems that these things seem to wreck more havoc than you think, my PC despite being clean was just not as responsiveas it had been, consider a full rebuild if you have time.
Changing browsers will indeed reduce your likelyhood of getting somethings nasty but with the user base as high as it is now you will undoubtedly see more attacks on the other browsers. It all about maxing the number of hits for your virus/trojan etc writers.
There are some progs like Spybot and things you can try.
Interestingly for me two of the best were windows defender and the wow launcher for cleaning and detecting (in that order)

Should FF reach a market share big enough to attract malware, there are other freeware browsers, such as Chrome or Safari, and the costs of switching is close to zero. How hard is copying a few bookmarks? Are there really any addons that you couldn't live without? Nah.
In any case, I doubt that FF will reach a high enough marketshare that will attract malware in the near future, as FF users are also likely to be more into updating their SW regularly and use anti-malware SW. Why bother aiming for a small, hard-to-hit target when there are still so many wide-open systems?
And in the worst case, you can all switch to a Hackintosh and be done with this malware for good. ;P

Avast! is a very good program, also works as a network shield and the home edition is free. And I would also recommend changing the browser at least for now (microsoft admitted there's been a breach), I'm using Opera.

IE is fixed now if you download the patch.
IE had dropped to about 70% market share last I saw, this latest round will undoubtedly drop it even lower.
A year or so ago I was chatting with a friend of a friend who is a AV technician (ie the people who have to build the code to delete/quarantine etc new viruses) and he said there weer already new virus targetting FF etc.
As you say people changing browsers ar emore likely to be tech savy.
However, I think I got my trojan by installing a codec pack, no browser will stop that. I basically ticked the "I trust this program" button cos I wanted the codecs. Most are actually distributed this way apparently now rather than by simply visiting a site (as the latest IE one was)

I tend to use Avira Anti-virus which is downloadable, also sbybot and windows defender. I always have windows firewall up, my computer has had some nasty viruses in the past but these programs seem to be keeping it clear at the moment *advice* don't use zone alarm they have been bought out and the new zone alarm is crap according to alencia and triggs dad ( he's a technician for the police servers on our local area)

free online virus and security check
i recommend running that if you cant find any virusses, as they sometimes meddle with your virus scanner files. this of course is not possible using an online scanner

Thanks a lot everyone for all the input provide.
Much appreciated, and it gives me all the info and arguments I need to make my move now.
Just for your info, I started using Safari last night, still puzzled how to move all thousands of bookmarks from IE to it, or how to find this or that functionality, but I am sure it will come with time and practice.
Thanks a lot again!
