Risen & DAO

Ompi's picture

Just finished a new and rather fun game called Risen, anyone else who have tried it out?
One of the best Single player RPG's I've played i must say, the fighting and professions can be a bit dull at start before you gain weapon and prof level and skill upg's. Good thing it's a single player though cause when you clear the last chapter all you can do is backtrack and finish stray quests so it won't make you quit wow Sticking out tongue

for those who have not tried it here is a nice game play vid, it cuts thru the chapters showing both 'faction' sides (Spell caster or Fighter, you can merge and divide the two sides as you wish combing spell caster and fighter or go fully one way) and thru starting game to high end levels and monsters.

If you have extra time outside wow and irl i recommend trying this game Eye-wink

got most play styles Sticking out tongue

  • Run in head first with the biggest axe/mace you can find in a grp of 10mobs cleaving and spinning around like mad.
  • Stand on range behind a minion of yours casting spells
  • Swing a war Staff in close combat combined with quick spells and ability's
  • Go the defensive mode with Shield/sword
  • Hunter path, standing far far away taking enemies down with arrows/bolts before they reach you
  • Become a thief, make a living by pickpocket your friends and steal from their treasure chests
  • or you can do all things together Eye-wink

Don't meen to promote you away from wow, just want to share a nice game experience i had and recommend you to try it as long as you don't take time away from wow! Sticking out tongue

And let's face it, who wouldn't want to run around cutting down small creatures that looks to be a mix between a dwarf and a pig. That happens to be called Gnome's? Eye-wink

lots of ads for Risen in France where Gothic has a lot of fans,

wanted to try it out straight away but the reviews are so-so, lot of ppl say that the game gets very boring past chapter 2, however kickass those first 2 chapters are.

Arg Ompi now I want to overcome my decisions and go buy it lol

i disagree, it's slow at start before you get the hang of how it all works and start to get some skills but get's better the further in you get tbh. it can be a bit slow at times on the later chapters but was not anything major that drew the game down in enjoyment, i think.

it get's easier when you learn the tricks Smiling

anyhow, for anyone who are into RPG games.
Wait, who am i kidding? we're all hooked to wow.. never mind that statement Eye-wink

Have a look at Dragon age: Origins, just released from Bioware. Looks very promising i must say.
It seems to be extreme in size. Just to get an idea, apparently there are whopping 104 different voice actors in this game, no char or npc have the same voice. Something i find very impressive and interesting to say the least^^ but i guess you can't expect anything less from Bioware.

    Review
    http://www.gametrailers.com/video/review-dragon-age/58516

Since it's not wow and no matter it's awesomeness going thru it's campaign i doubt it can compare to wow in the long run. I will prob try this out when i can and it will for sure only be a soaker of some hoers for when it's done there is nothing else to do other then to play it again. Therefore wow will win in that seance Smiling

The reason for that is wow's community, in essence this forum really. To be real i doubt there will ever be another game that can pass wow, cause they have already built this community that they can keep building on. Any other game developer have to start from scratch and come up with something so great to make wow look like a 2d game from Nintendo 64 Sticking out tongue Might happen but i doubt it.

I do hope most game developers do all they can to try and get that game who beats wow though, more gaming experience for us Smiling

    Check out the last video,

"Combining physical prowess and Force focus, the Knight can throw his lightsaber in spinning arc to strike enemies at a distance. Practice and mastery of this maneuver enables the Knight to ensure his saber returns to his hand after its lethal circuit."

does this mean that while you are practising, you actually either kill ur self many times or cut off ur own hand? Sticking out tongue i could imagine being at whatever level and having just learnt that move, and then trying it on a critter and killing yourself instead

i dunno if i'm not a 'real' geek or what but i really enjoy sword/bow/shield stuff games far over space/light sabers and shit. Sticking out tongue So to me Sci-Fi games are fun and cool sure but i would pick a game like Dragon age before a star game any day tbh.

think it's all that invincible stuff, 'look at me, i got a gadget that with one button can blow up a whole planet and kill 200 million people cause i live in the future and got very high tech stuff Sticking out tongue

sorry, just my point of view Sticking out tongue

don't get me wrong though, star wars will prob be a really nice game and i will for sure give it a try.

Heh, for me its the opposite...'magic' is simply nonesense, so I prefer the 'death beam' sci-fi stuff from a roleplaying perspective. At least that stuff is possible, if done in a way that doesn't defy the physics as we know it. For example, it is not possible to create matter out of nothing, but you could in theory arrange it to create stuff that you need from raw materials. Energy weapons are certainly possible if energy sources of sufficient capacity is available. On the other hand, faster-than-light travel is not possible, but I can live with it. Eye-wink

it's prob cause i'm not smart enough to understand all that star wars tech shit so therefore i don't find it to interesting Sticking out tongue

waiting for those, you guys might want to try Torchlight,

It's a real clone from diablo, in the same visual as WoW, the spell graphics are really nice,
there is imo too little spells per class altho (maybe 5 "real" spells x 3 trees, other spells are passive)
also the game is kinda easy, only the "hard mod" is a challenge, only 3 classes (warrior, Assassin/hunter and mage/necro)

but the good point is that you can dl the game for 13€
all worth it if you ask me,

as for DAO, it got a 19/20 review on one of the most famous Fr videogame site, they say it's the real BG 3, looks definitly kickass !!!

playing DA:O for a few days now, and it's stunning, it's more or less a mix if BG, NWN and probably oblivion (apart from the open world layout)
