Wow Widescreen 16:10?

Quick question today after some reading of various things about games and ws support etc.

I know wow has native ws support (ie resolution) but does it extend the horizontal view (the whole point of ws) or is it just a 4;3 enlarged. Didnt have time to investigate last night, but from some looking it seems not many games do proper +horz views without some fiddling or a hotfix.

it does not simply stretch your normal screen to widescreen if you mean that, you actually have a bigger view

yeah otherwise things would look distorted and stretched in the horizontal.

widescreen+Improved Camera Mod = Uber large view!

Things don't look distorted as it shrinks the vertical aspect to keep it looking ok. So with running a widescreen resolution you mostly likely loose vertical and gain horizontal or just loose height and don't gain any new viewing angle.
So becareful as running a game in ws doesnt mean u get ws view.

Ill do some tests tonight.

WoW's WS support isnt ideal tbh. It gives you more horizontal width while cutting off the top and bottom halves.

Personally I still like WS as usually seeing further around you is more useful than seeing upwards.

Ya those pics look like a 16:10 perhaps, as you should get more widescreen gain than that for a true 16:9 ratio. The gain of wide is less than the loss of height on those pics lol.

As i said, with ws gaming there is more than meets the eye lol. Bioshock for example doenst support a true 16:10/9 FOV without this user made patch which unlocks it.

World in Conflict doesnt use the +horz either atm, i read that they will put it in a futuer patch as the game is gold and can't add it in now.
HOpefully crysis will work properly Smiling
Half life 2 is suppose to be a really good benchmark on widescreen standards as the FOV is truely wide.

PS: are those pics something you just rustled up yourself earlier? Smiling

hehe nice screenies Laughing out loud
so seems you loose a bit dont ya.

considering the layout of wow ui this is still a benifit, over the loss in height.

@ Wed, 12/09/2007 - 14:02

Ya i suppose wow is an exception to the rule in regards to it doesnt really matter if u don't get a true wide image and is just a 4:3 still as the most important thing is the actualy physical size of the monitor allowing you more UI room Sticking out tongue

However i am hoping other games do or can be fixed as if im goingto spend 200 quid on a monitor i want to actually gain FOV not just see the same lol.

i just thought this was another geek nerd thread, but actually I'm interested, I got a 15,4 screen, the "rectangular kinda one" *caugh*, but the image does idd look like a 4/3 but just.. larger, I'm sure you know what I mean
putting wow in the same resolution than my screen is all I did, is there anything else I shall actually do ? Smiling

It's in the C section ^^ Xbox 360 widescreen gaming ftw

Btw i am struggling to find a decent speaker system for my new monitor. My last one had built in speakers which made things easier.

Does anyone know of a decent set? They have to be able to allow me to have my xbox and PC plugged into them (so a line in on them?) I don't want 5.1 or anything fancy as it's just for games, so something with a decent sub for less than 150

Bought a set of these recently, and this is a silly cheap price for them. I am quite amazed on the quality for the price tbh. They have a wired remote which sits on your desk with an on/off main speaker and sub control.
Ive been using them to listen to MP3 rather than connecting them to my PC, and they are perfectly up to the job, just a normal line into the back of the sub, which is about 1.5-2 meters long, standard jack on the end so can attach to any device with that size socket.

maybe too cheap for you, not sure

I'm a bit of a dummy at this

Do those have a place where i can plug my xbox into the back of those as opposed to a cable attached to them that just goes into the PC?

Has a single input socket so you would have to swap the cable. The cable would be at your soundcard so would depend if its easy to get to.
Other simple solution would be to get a normal amp and some speakers and use the normal amp inputs, but this is likely to work out a fiar bit as you will need a few more cables etc
I am guessing you could use a splitter to allow 2 inputs, used this before with no problems but woudl suggest you try that before as theoretically it should be isolated.

Easiest place to get a splitter is somewhere like maplins, halfords, electrical shop.
