Quick Fight Notes

  • 2 tanks rotate at every Rune of Blood
  • Ranged and healers spread out through the room, leaving 12 yards between eachother to minimize damage from Blood Nova
  • Ranged Dps kill adds ASAP, they have top killing priority. They can not be AoE'd
  • Don't get hit by the adds. Run away when they get close
  • Slow the adds as much as you can, frost traps prefered
  • Check video at 2.46 for a perfect example of how the adds should be killed
  • Deathbringer Saurfang gains Blood Points (Energy), when this reaches 100 he will cast Mark of the Fallen Champion
  • Mark of the Fallen Champion generates an additional Blood Point for each tick of damage
  • Heal the people with Mark of the Fallen Champion, they may not die or the boss heals
  • Stay spread at all times and don't die
  • HoP or shield the people with Boiling Blood. Less damage from this means less Blood Points
  • Soft enrage at 30% of boss' health


    Brief Tactic


    This fight is all about keeping the boss' Blood Points as low as possible. Each filled Blood Point bar means a Mark of the Fallen Champion on a raid member. This not only draws a lot of healing attention, it's also very dangerous with other random AoE abilities in range. If the person dies, the boss gains 5% more health which is about 1.6 million health. Don't let this happen.

    Ways to prevent Blood Points are to not get hit by the adds at all (Move away, slow them and kite them). All ranged Dps should switch to the adds to burn them down. Hunters use traps to slow these adds, elemental shamans, moonkins or fire mages use knockbacks when the adds spawn to increase their moving distance. Stay spread at all times to reduce the Blood Nova from hitting multiple people and fast tank switches should all work together to keeping the Blood Points low and resulting in an easy kill


    Heroic Ability's


    The heroic version of this boss isn't the hardest, but quite tricky nevertheless. The adds have more health and cast a debuff on their target which roots them in place. Hunters should stand to the left and right next to the boss, just outside their death zones, and place traps as the adds spawn. A person with a knockback should also stand close to the boss, just down the stairs, and use a knockback as the adds spawn to increase their moving path. Burn these adds asap and help eachother out. Blood Beasts will likely kill anyone who they reach, making it harder to kill the boss as you'll get a lot of Marks of the Fallen Champion. Good add control is key on this heroic encounter aside from good Dps and survival abilities.

  • Adds not killed fast enough leading to more Blood Points and more Marks of the Fallen Champion
  • Too much blood points gained from Blood Nova, stay spread!

    Deathbringer Saurfang is the fourth and final boss in the Icecrown Citadel Lower spire section. He is described as being the Lich King's most powerful death knight

    Ability's

  • Blood Link - Saurfang gains Blood Power from damage he inflicts with abilities and summoned creatures. Also increases his Energy by 1 each time Blood Link triggers.
    • Blood Power - Saurfang grows 1% larger and deals 1% more damage for each point of Blood Power he has.
  • Blood Nova - Blood explodes outward from a random enemy target, inflicting 10,000 Physical damage to nearby enemies.
  • Boiling Blood - Boils the blood of an enemy, inflicting 9,500 Physical damage every 3 seconds for 24 seconds.
  • Mark of the Fallen Champion - Causes Deathbringer Saurfang's melee attacks to splash to this target, inflicting 5,700 to 6,300 additional Physical damage. If the target dies while under this effect Saurfang is healed for 5% of his total health.
  • Rune of Blood - Saurfang leeches health when he performs melee attacks on targets marked with Rune of Blood. Leeches 5,100 to 6,900 health from an enemy target and heals Saurfang for 5 times that amount.
  • Scent of Blood - Saurfang's Blood Beasts catch the scent of blood, reducing all nearby enemies movement speed by 80% and increasing their damage by 300% for 10 seconds.
  • Call Blood Beast - Saurfang calls forth 5 blood beasts every 30 seconds.
    • Blood Beast - Thick Skin - The thick skin of this creature reduces damage from area effect attacks by 75%.
